About Metallurgy:

Metallurgy is the science and art of extracting metals from their ores, refining them and preparing them as final product for use.  The scope for metallurgy is majorly in sectors such as iron & steel, non ferrous metals production, material science, heavy engineering, production, corrosion, welding, automobiles, oil, thermal and nuclear power, quality control, consultancies etc. Metallurgy engineers who are experts in tasks - production, operation and maintenance of critical metallic components are required.

Major courses offer in Diploma Metallurgy:

  • Materials science
  • Mineral Processing
  • Iron and Steel making
  • Welding engineering
  • Extraction of non-ferrous metals
  • Foundry technology
  • Mechanical working of metals
  • Heat treatment of metals and alloys
  • Testing of metals
  • Corrosion engineering
  • Failure analysis
  • Furnace Technology
  • Physical Metallurgy

Career Opportunities:

  • Higher Education (B.E. / B.Tech.)

After completion of Diploma in Metallurgy program, students are eligible to enroll for Bachelor’s Degree (B.E. / B.Tech.) in Metallurgy Engineering or any other program through ‘D to D’ admission process.

  • Job Opportunities

Metallurgy Engineering has high demand in the India and across the world. They can be placed / employed in Government and Public Sector units, some of them are – DRDO, ISRO, SAIL, Vizaag Steel, CSIR, ONGC, GSFC, GNFC, GAIL, NMDC, Vedanta, Indian Railways etc.

In Private sector such as – Arcelor Mittal – AM/NS (formerly ESSAR) Steel, L&T, Tata Steel, Jindal, Birla Copper, Reliance, Ratnamni, Rajratana, Panchmahal, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Inductotherm, Bharat Forge, FAG, INOX, BANCO etc.

Apart from Government and Private Sectors, Metallurgical Engineer can be joined in the testing laboratories, foundries, welding shop, maintenance and inspection department of small to medium scale industries (MSME) at your nearby area.
