the Department:
Metallurgy
Department is established in academic year 2022-23 with intake of 60, is one of
the core departments of Government Polytechnic, Gandhinagar. This institute is
running under Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Education Department,
Government of Gujarat. Three years of diploma in metallurgy program is approved
by the All India council for technical education (AICTE), New Delhi and is
affiliated to the Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmadabad.

About Metallurgy:
Metallurgy is the science and art of
extracting metals from their ores, refining them and preparing them as final
product for use. The scope for
metallurgy is majorly in sectors such as iron & steel, non ferrous metals
production, material science, heavy engineering, production, corrosion,
welding, automobiles, oil, thermal and nuclear power, quality control, consultancies
etc. Metallurgy engineers who are experts in tasks - production, operation and
maintenance of critical metallic components are required.

Career Opportunities:
After
completion of Diploma in Metallurgy program, students are eligible to enroll for
Bachelor’s Degree (B.E. / B.Tech.) in Metallurgy Engineering or any other
program through ‘D to D’ admission process.
Metallurgy
Engineering has high demand in the India and across the world. They can be placed
/ employed in Government and Public Sector units, some of them are – DRDO,
ISRO, SAIL, Vizaag Steel, CSIR, ONGC, GSFC, GNFC, GAIL, NMDC, Vedanta, Indian
Railways etc.
In
Private sector such as – Arcelor Mittal – AM/NS (formerly ESSAR) Steel,
L&T, Tata Steel, Jindal, Birla Copper, Reliance, Ratnamni, Rajratana,
Panchmahal, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Inductotherm, Bharat Forge, FAG, INOX, BANCO
etc.
Apart
from Government and Private Sectors, Metallurgical Engineer can be joined in
the testing laboratories, foundries, welding shop, maintenance and inspection
department of small to medium scale industries (MSME) at your nearby area.
